It took place June 6, 2004! Five PT Cruisers and their passengers-Cruiser enthusiast all-met on the Wilmington Pike parking lot of Home Depot to consider the possibility of starting a Cruiser Club for the Miami Valley of Ohio. Of the seven people there that June day, five are still active members in the club they began.
Two weeks later the five Cruisers grew to 20 for the club's first official event, a Show and Shine at Beavercreek's Quaker Steak and Lube. Among those present were enthusiasts from as far as Columbus and Cincinnati, there to support the new club. The date was June 26, 2004, the anniversary date for GCPTC.
As of year's end 2006, the club has 35 PT Cruisers (plus one PT Chaser van) and their various enthusiast-owners, about a dozen others who have indicated an interest in membership; and our cruises seem to draw from 12-15 Cruisers.
Gem City PT Cruisers is a club without any formal organizational structure-no fees-no dues. All important decisions are made by the club members meeting at one of our dinner gatherings, which take place at various eating establishments around the Miami Valley.
In the interest of avoiding total anarchy, the club has elected Conveners to provide a form of guidance leadership. The first Convener was Harvey Cohen; then, Bob Riffle, Jack Smith-St. Cyr, Ron Ungerer, and currently, Rich Hisey.
